Regional funding

Increase the amount of funding the region accesses from national private and public sources.

As a Philadelphia-based philanthropy for nearly 80 years, we believe our impact in this region must go farther than our own grantmaking. To that end, we work to make sure that our region can successfully access funding from other private, state, and federal sources. New funds may be directly related to our grantmaking programs, or they could support work that is outside of our programs.

Currently, billions of dollars in federal funding are available due to legislation like the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act. And even long-standing government and philanthropic programs present opportunities to secure funding for important projects in our region. However, organizations often face barriers in application process, project development, match requirements, compliance requirements, and more, that make accessing these funds difficult.

In order to create more opportunities for more Philadelphians, we are focusing on helping our region access funding from national private and public sources.

In advancing this objective, we recognize that there are many ways that organizations and communities help to address barriers to ensure that the Philadelphia region receives its fair share of public and philanthropic funds. Possible efforts include helping organizations to prepare and be competitive for funding opportunities or co-funding initiatives with philanthropies outside of the region. We are seeking to support projects and programs that organizations believe will be most effective in making progress on the objective above.

We measure the progress of this objective by tracking the amount of state and national funding invested in the region that results from grants awarded by the Foundation.
