Equity of Access to Trails

Market Research - Fall 2020

Commissioned by the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Task Force of the Circuit Trails, with funding from the William Penn Foundation, this study was designed to identify the motivators and barriers to trail use in communities of color adjacent to the Circuit Trails network in four cities: Philadelphia, Camden, Trenton, and Norristown. The study explores residents’ needs, interests, and apprehensions in their daily lives, and how that connects to their awareness, impressions, and experiences with nearby trails and outdoor public spaces. The study recommends actions that Circuit Trails Coalition members and partner organizations can take to improve the trail experience to better connect people to the trails and to the outdoors. Implications for a broader population beyond the four focus communities are also discussed. Click below for the full report.
