Program Officer Consultant

The William Penn Foundation is seeking a temporary, full-time (approximately 35 work hours/week) Program Officer Consultant role to assist with management of grantmaking and related tasks on a short-term basis. The position is available beginning immediately and is expected to work approximately 35 hours per week through approximately late-February 2022. As a temporary position, this position does not include any Foundation benefits, other than those required by law.

The consultant will work to facilitate the grant application and reporting processes related to the Creative Communities program with primary emphasis on the Public Space funding area (which includes the Public Space Creation and Stewardship and Equitable Economic Impacts strategies). These two funding strategies seek to support more equitable access to the many benefits that public and shared community spaces provide to people and communities in the Greater Philadelphia area. The consultant will also work in a limited way on the Arts and Culture funding area.

The consultant will report to the Director of the Creative Communities program and will work alongside other program and foundation staff to insure smooth, timely, and well executed processes related to grantmaking, grantee support, convenings, and communications.

Tasks will include:

  • Record keeping and data entry into Salesforce
  • Communication with grant applicants about deadlines and procedures
  • Reviewing grant reports to ensure compliance and synthesizing key findings for WPF staff
  • Responding to grantee administrative inquiries; coordinating with other WPF staff as necessary on responses
  • Support in generating documents and presentations related to Board meetings, Communications, and Convenings
  • Coordination with external consultants working on contracted projects concerning evaluation of key projects, assessment of funded work related to climate change and sustainability
  • Scheduling meetings on behalf of WPF staff
  • Other project management, administration, and communications duties as required 


The preferred candidate will have the following qualities:

  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge/experience working in neighborhoods in areas of public space, community development, urban planning or related fields,
  • Knowledge of Philadelphia and the surrounding region, specifically communities and neighborhoods of color
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of Salesforce is preferred, but not required 


Compensation: $75 per hour
